Shadwan Khalil Qishawi The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of praise, rewards and the mixed method on modifying the behaviour of seventh-grade male and female slow learns in Bedia salfit schools. The study addressed the following questions: Is there a statistically significant difference between the means of reinforcement methods namely using praise, rewards and the mixed method (Praise and reward together) on slow learners' attitude towards the English language in the experimental group and those in the control group? Is there a statistically significant difference between the means of reinforcement method on slow learners? The population of the study comprised all the seventh-grade male and female slow learners, in Salfit area government schools in the academic year 1996-1997. The whole target population was 372 students. The sample of the study formed two main groups (males 56, females 55) which were divided into four groups were assigned as experimental groups and one group as control group using the simple random sampling. The finding of the study were as follows: There was a significant difference between the means of positive reinforcement methods and the traditional method, in favor of positive reinforcement method or the experimental group in comparison with the control group. There was a significant difference between the means of reinforcement methods on slow learners' attitude towards the English language when compared with the traditional method, due to teachers' use of praise, rewards and the mixed method.
