the effect of role-play model in improving the speaking skill of the english grade students at UNRWA in Nablus area

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of role playing on the development of speaking proficiency of the eighth grade students. This study aimed to answer the following questions:
Does the application of role paying enhance and develop the speaking proficiency of the eighth graders?

Does the absence of role paying from the eighth grade classroom affect the speaking proficiency?
Which would develop the speaking proficiency:

Role playing teaching or the traditional way of teaching?
The population of the study consisted of all male eighth graders in UNRWA Nablus Area. They were (694). The sample of the study consisted of (60) students.

To achieve the objectives of the study, the sample was experimented using role playing for the experimental group and the traditional way of teaching for the control one. Those two groups were pretested on the speaking proficiency FSI Oral Interview. After the statistical treatment, the researcher came up with following results:

The experimental group developed significantly after the implementation of role playing. That is, there was progress on the levels of speaking proficiency.
None of the subjects in the sample of the study reached the level 3 or beyond in the speaking proficiency.
The highest progress for the experimental group was in vocabulary and fluency.
