The Influence of Teaching English Literature on Learning English as a Foreign Language

The study aim to investigate and explore the need for including English literature that motivates the students to study English as a foreign language, and the method which the teachers in the EFL classroom used. The population of the study consisted of a selected six hundred students from Beir-Ziet and Bethlehem University who had registered for entrance examine 1987. The researcher developed a questionnaire based on Alan purves (1973). To ensure the validity of the questionnaire it was sent to eleven specialists, and the reliability was examined and had a 0,921.

The result of the study showed great benefits to the EFL learners who are exposed to the suitable literary text through their studying the English language.
