The Relationship Between the Attitudes of the First secondary class students toward learning english

The aims of this study are:

-To investigate the difference in the students' attitudes toward learning English vocabulary using direct or indirect instruction.
-To investigate the difference in the students' attitudes toward learning English vocabulary using direct or indirect instruction due to place of living, gender and students' specialization variables.

-To      investigate the difference in the students' achievement in English language in relation to place of living, specialization and gender variables.

-To      find out if there is any relation correlation between the students' achievement and attitudes toward using direct and indirect instruction in learning English vocabulary.
For these aims, the researcher developed a questionnaire to measure student's attitudes.  The sample of this study consisted of (358) of the First Secondary Class Student in Qalqilia district, which is 4o% of the population. The data were collected, coded out and analyzed using (Means and percentages Independent T - test, Paired T - test, Pearson correlation coefficient, Alpha formula.

The study recommends that the English curricula be built on using the indirect instruction either in teaching, revising or testing. In addition the study recommends using attitudinal tests aside with achievement ones in classifying students into literary or scientific streams The study also recommends training English teachers into using the indirect instruction.
