The Effect of Using the Expository Advance Organizer on the Appearance of High-Cognitive Levels Upon the Written Production of Tenth-Grade Students in Bethlehem District

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of using the Expository Advance Organizer on the Appearance of High-Cognitive Levels Upon the Written Production of Tenth-Grade Students in Al-Ubeidiya Public Schools. Specifically, the study sought to determine the effect of the expository advance organizer on the appearance of high and low cognitive questions on the written production achievement of students. The study addressed the following questions:

Is there difference in the post-test means scores on the high level of students who receive instruction using the advance organizer method in the experimental group and those who receive instruction using the traditional method in the controlled group in the four measures: number of words used: average sentence length: number of clauses per sentence and error per 100 words?

The population of the study comprised all the tenth grade students in Bethlehem area in government schools in the academic year 1995-1996. The sample of the study is from Al-Ubeidiya two government schools, one for males and one for females. The sample formed two main groups (46 males, 54 females) which were divided into four groups using simple random sampling. Each group was assigned to one experimental and one control group using the simple random sampling.

The finding of the study were as follow: there was a significant difference between the two methods of teaching advance organizer method (AOM) and traditional method (TRM), in favour of the advance organizer method or experimental group in comparison with the control group.
